I ate what?

August 29, 2015

Well really I knew what I was eating.  We searched for an hour in Latacunga (Ecuador) with one of my friends to find a place serving cuy (say cooey but fast with less of the ooo sound) aka: guinea pig

It looks like this before you eat it.

Thats right.  Its a slightly terrifying guinea pig stretched onto a board.

Just waiting to be played with...

Pre-cooked guinea pig board meat fight!
Being cooked.  I´m glad I am not a guinea pig.
This is what our plate looked like.  We also got a plate of potatoes with some sort of cream sauce.

Head and two front halves
This is what we look like while we eat it.

Really it was pretty good.  Tasted kinda like fried chicken, and had good flavoring. The only weird thing was it had a face.  Still staring at us.  Also the paws.  Made it really hard to not play with your food.
High Five!
We even ate the head.  Well...some of the head.

More like the cheeks.

And ears.

They were like potato chips.  Ear potato chips.

I couldn't get myself to eat any of the head meat or the tongue.

Here is some video for your viewing pleasure.  Us, my friend Josè, and his friend Christian.
(Pretty sure its sideways, don´t know how to fix that.  Also I hope it works, since I couldn´t confirm on the not-so-good computer I did it on)

This is what the plate looked like at the end.

We learned a lot about guinea pig anatomy.
And again with the playing-with-your-food thing, we of course had to reassemble the thing

A rack of guinea pig ribs is really kinda cute...
It was a new food experience for sure.

Later that night we went to Salcedo which is known for its ice cream.  That was a little less weird.
