So after being in South America for over 6 months, I'd say I've gotten used to some weird things, especially when it comes to what stores have. I can see watch repair shops with blenders and microscopes for sale without blinking an eye.
Every now and again, I get blindsided though.
This happened when I visited the Panamericana bookstore in Bogota, on my search to find a new journal.
Bookstores are kind of standard, right? It started off like any Barnes and Noble.
There were books.
There were journals, and notebooks.
Backpacks.
Office supplies, pens, sticky notes, etc.
*wrist slap for not taking appropriate pictures*
Then the arts and crafts section. Stickers.
More paint than you can shake a paintbrush at. (They sold those too in case you were inclined to try)
Then it started to stray from normal.
You had your electronics. Charging cables, headphones, tablets, those are pretty normal. There were XBOX games though, which was a little off the beaten path.
Barbie doll section. (Behind me was the Transformer side)
Gift wrap, bags, and bows. To give the small child their Barbie and Transformer.
You have your tools section. Pliers, extension cords, X-Acto knives, box cutters, flashlights...
Then the lab-grade test tubes, beakers, and assorted glassware. I stood there just looking for a while, trying to wrap my brain around it.
What took the cake for me, was as I turned the corner from the glassware, staring at me were was a lit up case of the Indian and Buddha statues next to the sparkle faeries and dragons.
Which was next to designer watches.
Wut.
In another branch in a different shopping mall, I also found excersize equipment, picture frames, blenders, and a big shelf full of small globes, which I guess was this month's featured thing.
Good job Colombia, you brought merriment to my day.
